George, and surrounding towns in the Southern Cape Region, is home to the alternative BIG 5 (mountains, rivers, forests, lakes and oceans) and forms part of the Eden district. It is a very popular tourist and well-known retirement destination with approximately 320 000 international and 1.2 million domestic visitors.

George is a burgeoning city and has a sophisticated infrastructure with all major banks, conference facilities, businesses and shopping centres. Garden Route Mall and the newly built Eden Meander offer the shopper a pleasant and comprehensive experience.

George Municipality boasts many achievements, particularly first place in the Eco Logic Awards for recognition in making a real and measurable difference in creating a more sustainable world to live in.  The Municipality shows leadership in good governance by continuing their excellent achievement of a fourth consecutive Clean Audit Report for the financial year ending 30 June 2015, a rare feat for local municipalities.

George Municipality has made great strides in improving public transport systems for George and surrounding areas.  Go George is operated by public transport operators and launched in December 2014, with routes rolling out in phases over a period of time.

The aim of Go George was to provide a public transport service that is reliable, inexpensive, safe, convenient and accessible and would ultimately contribute to a better quality of life for all residents and users of the service.

Go George is a convenient and easy way to travel into town, with bus stops within walking distance of the Retirement Estate.
